Episode 6: Cassandra Braun

Cassandra (Casey) Braun began her role as the Bowdoin College Museum of Art’s curator in August 2022. Prior to that, she served as Associate Curator of Global Indigenous Art at the Spencer Museum of Art where she oversaw a collection of nearly 10,000 works of art from the Americas, Africa, and Oceania. In that role, she curated more than a dozen exhibitions, managed several artist residencies, and served as an affiliate faculty member in the Museum Studies Program. She also has experience at the Haffenreffer Museum of Anthropology and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Casey has particular interests in contemporary Indigenous art, the intersections of art, science, and medicine, and exploring the role of social justice work in museum settings. At Bowdoin, she enjoys developing new projects that draw from the BCMA’s rich collections and working with faculty and students to integrate the BCMA into the curricular and co-curricular experiences. Casey has a BA from New York University and completed her PhD in anthropology at Brown University in 2012.
