Charter v District Schools

This website addresses the competing arguments in favor and against charter schools. Is public education enough? Do charters better serve their student body? This website will focus on the grassroots approach to stifle or continue the rapid spread of charter schools. This site mostly  addresses the success and failures of the very prominent charter schools in Urban Massachusetts.

Massachusetts grassroots organizations against charters have made strides in combatting their expansion. Many of these groups are comprised of parents and teacher unions. The anti charter movement is a predominately progressive movement, which naturally includes groups that advocate for civil rights. Left leaning organizations that advocate for teacher’s rights and equal access to education for all students largely oppose charter schools. The state’s resounding rejection of the 2016 ballot question that would have raised the limit on charter schools exemplify the effectiveness of these local grassroots movements.
