While the organizations against Charter  school expansion are largely local, those in support are overwhelmingly backed by larger corporations with deep pockets.

https://www.masscharterschools.org/ Massachusetts Charter Public School association represents most charter schools in the state. Founded in 2001, they are a large organization that advocates for autonomous, high quality charter schools. Additionally, they seek charter expansion.

http://www.publiccharters.org/ National Alliance for Public Charter Schools is nationwide, and well funded. They especially focus on the nation’s expansion of charter schools. Their website is easy to navigate.

Although they use key terminology (like “coalition of parents”) to appear more like a community led effort, this organization is funded by wealthy education reformers. This organization raised and spent the most money on the pro-charter side.

http://www.familiesforexcellentschools.org/ Families for Excellent Schools (FES) is a nation wide pro charter organization based in Ny. FES donated millions of dollars to Great Schools Massachusetts during the 2016 campaign to raise the charter cap. FES is an example of outside, “dark money” gaining influence in local campaigns across the country.
