  • My intentions with this project are to explore the relationship between marijuana and the millennial generation. As the legalization of marijuana becomes more prevalent in our society, the relationship between both the individual and the collective’s interactions with the substance is subject to change. Given that there is both opposition and advocacy for marijuana usage, both medically and recreationally, and its history of illegality, this presents itself as a compelling aspect of our modern social world. One can assume that on a college campus, while most students will not be of a legal drinking age until their junior year, they participate in the drinking culture and its social spaces regardless.  I think that it is useful to also explore how and where this social culture/sphere might exist as it pertains to marijuana usage, on college campuses, but also more broadly amongst the millennial generation. I will consider how state laws have changed and in turn influence or not influence a person’s decision/ability to use the substance. Situating this topic historically will help to make sense of the capacity to which marijuana has and still does affect our social world.
