Music has the power to create connection between people of all ages, races, and creeds. It is a tool for cultivating community because it is like a universal language; all cultures have music, and people can relate to the emotions expressed in all kinds of music even if there is a language barrier.
Music can both reflect and create culture. Sometimes, people create music expressing their political views or sharing stories related to their culture. Other times, people create a culture surrounding a certain type of music. We can see these phenomena amidst the Corona Virus pandemic. People are uniting over this hardship by writing parody songs describing their experiences as well as creating communities on social media through music challenges.
