Tik Tok is a social media platform where people post short videos of them singing, dancing, playing with
their pets, or doing any kind of everyday activity that they want to share. I did not have a Tik Tok prior to this project, but I thought it was important to investigate the ways that people use Tik Tok as a space to share music. Ultimately, I decided to download Tik Tok to see the kind of content that people posted. As a young person in the age group that most often subscribes to these kinds of social media, I did feel a little silly downloading a social media app for research purposes. Luckily, I have supportive friends who can help me laugh at myself.
Sharing Musical Talent Via Tik Tok
People are using Tik Tok as a virtual space to share music. Some artists are posting original content while others share covers or parodies of songs. People creatively express themselves through music and come up with ways to harmonize virtually with other people. The music shared on Tik Tok not only provides a creative outlet for the creator but also lets other people view relatable content. The video below contains examples of people sharing their musical interests via Tik Tok, and it is clear that people are creating communities on Tik Tok to connect with other people with similar interests.
