I think our presentation went smoothly. Going through the process of preparing for the presentation helped Holly and I get a better sense of how to present a narrative that sticks to our main argument. We structured the presentation to reflect how we wanted to organize our film, starting with a brief introduction then going into our analyses of bodies, space, and the intersection of the two. The comments and questions were helpful and it was reassuring to know that many of the questions would be answered in our final cut of the film. One suggestion was to include the perspective of someone who identifies as trans. I think this perspective would have supplemented our analysis by adding nuance and a different angle.

Since the presentation, Holly and I finished editing the film. We decided to organize the film into six main sections: introduction, bodies, space, intersection of body and space, fashion as resistance, and concluding thoughts. For the resistance section, we thought it would be humorous to make a montage of people’s lengthy pauses after being asked the question: have you ever used fashion as a form of resistance? I found it interesting to see how people thought about the question and how some were quick to answer no. Anu was the only person to answer definitely and say yes.

Editing was a very tedious and lengthy process. We had over seven hours of amazing footage. Holly and I spent many hours discussing and planning this project. I think all of our pre-production work paid off in the end by making our coding and editing process more streamlined and efficient. Also since we finished all filming early on, we were able to spend enough time on developing our analysis. All of our respondents said so many interesting things and they were all so different. It was difficult to select the quotes to include and to organize these quotes into coherent sequences. Also we gathered a lot of great B-Roll footage of the respondents rooms, closets, and clothes. We were planning on including this footage in the end of the film but due to lack of time and technological difficulties, we were not able to. I think this footage would have strengthened the interviews because it gives context for their descriptions of their fashion and reveals some of their fashion inspirations. Looking back at our original plans for the film, I wish we also had the time to film ourselves as researchers in order to show researcher positionality.  Overall, I am very pleased with our final product.
