Description of methods

As of now, my project will be presented in the form of a research paper. eSports is certainly a complex industry so I intend to first delve into research regarding the fundamental definition of the industry such as what is eSports and why is it growing so fast? Next, I will discuss the many factors that I believe are essential in understanding the relationship between millennials and eSports. I will explore the demographic trends to investigate whether other generations are involved in the industry as well as investigating how eSports has created a community experience and spectator sport from a game we simply used to play for fun. Moreover, I intend to transition my paper from eSports basic concepts to highlighting how the millennial generation has taken control over things society considers benign (playing video games) and transforming them into million dollar industries. My paper will further discuss what does this pattern of commodifying “passions” into jobs mean for economy’s future and how might it change one’s social mobility in contemporary society?

  • Why is it growing so fast?
  • Demographic trends
  • What are other brands doing with eSports?
  • Where is the industry going? Where will it be in five years?
  • The role of social media and streaming technologies
