Data and Methods
As a consumer of vlogs myself, I feel comfortable using my own experiences as a starting point to generate questions on this topic that sociology can help me answer, rather than relying solely on a separate research population. From there, selected readings will uncover more questions and so on. Because I am planning to structure this as a research paper, I will draw mostly from published articles, books, and social scientists. My plan is to introduce the concept of vlogs and discuss the historical rise of their popularity. I will then discuss, thematically, the ways in which vlogs may be able to improve the conditions of the Millennial generation. For example, I have read several articles thus far that argue “crying” vlogs are able productive in self-therapy, while Millennial, male vloggers are helping to redefine traditional masculinity. I will conclude using sociological frameworks to suggest where these types of videos may take our generation. The structure of this paper is subject to change and will likely take several different directions before completion, as articles generate more questions and continuously refine my paper and potentially my project in total.
