Reflecting on my presentation about the progress of my work, it was incredibly enlightening to talk about my project and get feedback from the class. I thought many of the comments and suggestions at the end were extremely helpful and have led to me implemented them into the research and paper I am creating. For example, Kendall identified with my philosophy of trying to focus on the way that clothing or fashion at Bowdoin can be “othering” and exclusive to different demographics on campus. Following this advice, I was able to utilize Kayli and her connections with the Avant Garb group. The access to that population allowed me to speak with people who not only care about fashion, but also people who I wouldn’t normally be in contact with. I am also finding that they have a polished and sincere perspective of style and the different aspects of fashion, which has been a refreshing addition.
In accordance with the information I am gathering from the Avant Garb group, I have also expanded my literature investigation to Millennial habits and behaviors in other facets of life. For instance, studying research on how the adolescent generation operates in the work environment has helped me attain a new understanding about relationships and habits of being professional and resisting ridicule. The decision to expand my research was in part due to the fact that I was having difficulty identifying sources based solely on Millennial fashion, but it also helped with the behavioral side of my study. My focus is certainly on clothing and style, but the sociological underpinnings are more geared towards behavior and attitude, so broadening my scope has proven to be effective.
I am currently in the middle of my paper, but the other aspect of the presentation that has been helpful is seeing the impact the audio had on the class. I wanted my presentation to be efficient and exhibit the most pertinent components of my project. I feel as though the interview I shared was the most compelling piece of evidence I had, which is why I decided to do focus areas on a few of my interviews followed by in-depth analysis on each subject. Moreover, I also included a case study on Canada Goose jackets since it seemed to be a central theme throughout my findings and research. I feel confident about my arguments at this stage and think the quality of my investigation will match the research I have done.
Moving forward, I hope to complete my paper in the coming days so I can spend as much time as possible making it the highest quality attainable. I find that I am able to enhance the status of my work a great deal during the revision process and am eager to have all of my work come together in the proper way.
