Assignment

The Trump administration has caused deep, real harm to people across America. A Trump coup would further this damage, not just because a second Trump term would be disastrous but also because of the lasting implications of a coup. Before November 3rd, rank-and-file members of unions nationwide brought forth resolutions to plan for the event of a Trump coup. Educational unions were also a part of this because their students would be among those significantly impacted. The idea was that in the event of a coup, enough unions would strike so that the country would effectively shut down, as there is historical and modern precedent for mass nonviolent noncooperation preventing a coup. Seattle educators took part in this national movement, which has not had to happen yet. However, the organizing that happened in the weeks leading up to November 3rd shows the importance of rank-and-file members organizing in social justice unions.

This website was made for the Grassroots Organizing in Education Case Study Website assignment for EDUC 2272 (Urban Education and Community Organizing) in Fall 2020. In this assignment, you will research and document the work that students, parents, teachers, and community members are doing to address barriers to educational equity in their local community. You will discuss a major barrier to equity within this community, a grassroots organization that has addressed this issue, and the strategies that stakeholders within this organization have used to address it. By completing this assignment, you will gain valuable research and presentation skills and learn how to design a website that conveys information effectively. You will also develop a case study that could inform the work of stakeholders in other contexts facing this same issue.
