The Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers Association (TTUTA)

Contrarily, the TTUTA has generally sided with the Minister of Education, Anthony Garcia, against the abolition of the SEA. They were the ones to refute the Ministry on the early exam date, but their current and former presidents believe it to be necessary – the exam has its flaws, but there are no other alternatives. The TUTTA’s former president, Trevor Oliver, believes that Trinidad cannot simply toss the exam without an adequate replacement. Additionally, he deems the SEA as necessary to evaluate schoolchildren, but would rather reform than abolish the exam. Similarly, the current TTUTA president, Antonia De Freitas, holds the same stance (Kenzie et al., 2020).
