Conceptual Framework

In order for the movement to launch, frameworks such as Ella Baker’s model for social change is all about understanding the voice every individual has. Baker has fermented the path for young people to get involved in organizing and bringing the community together. Having people start using their voice from a very young age creates independence and confidence to be able to work with others in community organizing. Her work was based on creating young leaders to continue fighting for social justice. Not only that but Baker’s model for social change was also mostly focused on organizing, she believed it was the best way to create real and protected change (Payne 898).

Then by looking at another framework, in conjunction with Baker’s model, would be Social Justice Unionism. This model of organizing works primarily by gathering students, educators, staff, and community members to fight towards a common goal that would benefit everyone. The social justice unions are based on the Caucus of Rank-and-file Educators (CORE, 2020), which puts an emphasis on creating strong allies within their own communities because it is a member-driven union. This allows for voices to be heard when it comes to decision making and making other inputs in discussions within the union. Another belief this movement focuses on is public education and education for all, which also includes fighting for the underfunded and protecting the well-funded communities both of which are Black and Brown communities (CORE, 2020).
