Abstract

As a direct result of the use of zero-tolerance policies, contracts with police departments that place police officers within schools, and the implementation of prison-like infrastructure and design, the American public school system today has created a direct pipeline for students to move directly from educational institutions into the prison-industrial complex.

Voices of Youth in Chicago Education (VOYCE) is just one of many youth-led organizations working to dismantle this school and prison nexus. This website will provide an in-depth look at how the organizing strategies of VOYCE have enabled the passage of important legislation, as well as an analysis of relevant conceptual frameworks of youth organizing that help inform our understanding of educational organizing more broadly.
