The Frederick Douglass Community Coalition

The Frederick Douglass Community Coalition was a prominent opposer of the charterization of Douglass High School (Dixson, 2015, p. 291). Coalition members pull from educational, cultural, and political organizations in New Orleans (Dixson, 2015, p. 291). The Coalition’s commitment to ensure all students have access to a high quality and equitable public school experience wasn’t a reactive response after Hurricane Katrina (Dixson, 2015, p. 291). Rather, the Frederick Douglass Community Coalition made plans to involve the surrounding Douglass community in regards to the school’s curriculum and educational policies prior to 2005 (Dixson, 2015, p. 291).
