ORGANIZING STRATEGIES

The CTU is part of the Grassroots Collaborative that is made up of teachers in Chicago, banding together to fight for change within the educational system. The CTU has brought together thousands of teachers and other professionals that work to fight for the core of education, providing students with safe and accepting places to learn and grow. The CTU is a big advocate for standing up for what you believe in doing this through campaigns, petitions, and strikes to make their voices heard in Chicago (Brown 2019). There are many ways to support and become involved with the CTU including physically becoming a part of the program, donating to the cause, joining more local committees that are advocating for the same rights under the CTU, and most importantly constantly fighting for change at the local and state level. The CTU focuses on uniting colleagues and people into one army and fighting for an unbiased education system, far from the one in place today (Brown 2019). The CTU is constantly looking for strong minded people to help organize their unions, setting up ways to fight for change through campaigns, developing or becoming grassroots leaders, encouraging more people such as parents to become involved with the CTU, and ultimately working to bring the community together (Brown 2019). The CTU faces many budget problems, forcing workers to be laid off. Additionally, as the biggest local union in Chicago, many other groups and institutions work against the mission of the CTU (Sustar 2010).
