ABSTRACT

The education system in today’s society is extremely flawed and in need of massive reparations, to fix the current pandemic of public education. The racial discrimination exhibited in Chicago, Illinois, due to housing discrepancies that have been institutionalized since the act of redlining has translated into the injustices seen in the educational opportunities that children receive. Through acts of social justice unionism, and participatory democratic organizing, grassroots collaborative organizations such as the Chicago Teachers Union have been working vigorously through petitions, strikes, walk outs and other strategies to end the unfairness that so obviously infiltrates the public education system.
